Everything you need to know about the Release Clause in FC 26 Career Mode. This will help you avoid a ton of traps and find some great high value players.

In FC 26. the Release Clause is a special contract feature in Career Mode that can pop up when you sign a player. It is super risky, so try to reject it unless the agent is being stubborn and you really want the guy.

What is a Release Clause?

Basically, it allows players to force a transfer. If another club pays the fee, the game automatically accepts the bid. It completely skips club negotiations, and they go straight to discussing personal terms with the player.

How does it affect you?

It has pros and cons, but honestly, it hurts you more than it helps. Here is the breakdown:

The good: Forcing transfers

When looking at players on the transfer market, if someone has a Release Clause, you can just pay the fee and take him. It is perfect for poaching high value players with low release fees.

The bad: Losing your players

When renewing or signing a new contract, the agent might insist on adding a Release Clause. If you agree to a low fee and the player becomes a superstar under your coaching, other clubs can just trigger the clause. You wont even get a chance to negotiate or counter, you will just watch your star player walk away.

Contract tips

Starters

If you want a player to be a key part of your squad, try to reject the clause. If the agent plays hardball and demands it, manually max out the release fee.

Squad players

If you are just signing someone as a temporary backup and do not really care if he stays, you can agree to a fee slightly above his market value. If another club buys him out later, you still make a decent profit.

Things to watch out for

There are a few hidden mechanics and traps with release clauses that can easily screw you over if you are not careful:

Don't fight the agents

When talking to agents, don't just blindly click Remove Clause. There is a huge chance they will feel you lack sincerity and walk out on the deal. Even worse, the player might refuse to negotiate with you for weeks or longer, completely ruining the signing.

The right move is to choose Negotiate Clause and manually jack up the fee to a crazy high number. If they are going to be a starter, just max it out. Agents usually accept this, which basically makes the clause useless anyway.

Release clauses require raw cash

With normal transfers, you can swap players to lower the fee. But if you trigger a release clause, you can not include player swaps and have to pay the full price in cash. Make sure you have enough Transfer Budget before making the move.
