FC 26 World Cup Mode launched June 4, 2026 as part of Season 8, "The World's Game." It runs alongside your regular Ultimate Team, not instead of it. The two modes share the same FUT menu, the same squad, and the same reward track, but they play completely differently. World Cup Mode is a tournament bracket with national teams. Ultimate Team is the squad-building grind you already know. This guide explains what's different, what rewards each mode gives, and which one you should focus your time on.

Format explained — how the two modes compare
| Feature | World Cup Mode | Ultimate Team |
|---|---|---|
| What you play as | A real national team (France, Brazil, etc.) | Your custom FUT squad |
| Match structure | Group stage (12 groups of 4) → Round of 32 → knockout to Final | Rivals, Squad Battles, FUT Champions, Rush, friendlies |
| Player selection | Fixed national team roster, no customisation | Build any squad from your club |
| Chemistry system | National Team Chemistry (bonus for same-nation players) | Club + League + Nation Chemistry |
| Difficulty | Beginner through Ultimate (you choose) | Online opponents or AI difficulty you set |
| Co-op support | Yes, online co-op with a friend | Yes, in Rivals and friendlies |
| Duration | Limited event, ends July 24, 2026 | Permanent, runs all year |
| Cost | FREE (part of Patch 1.6) | FREE (base game) |
The big difference: World Cup Mode gives you a preset squad and a bracket. Ultimate Team lets you build whatever you want. World Cup Mode is for quick tournament runs. Ultimate Team is the long game.
All rewards — World Cup Mode and Ultimate Team
Both modes feed into the same Festival of Football reward track. Here's what you can earn:
| Milestone | Reward | Tradeable? |
|---|---|---|
| Log in during Festival of Football | 93 OVR ICON Pelé + 3 Evolutions | NO |
| Win World Cup Mode group stage | Gold pack + XP | YES |
| Reach World Cup Mode Round of 16 | Premium Gold pack | YES |
| Reach World Cup Mode Quarter-Finals | Rare Players pack | YES |
| Win the World Cup Mode Final | Jumbo Rare Players pack + 50K XP | YES |
| Play any FUT mode (Rivals, Squad Battles, Rush) | Festival of Football Tokens (up to 1,000/week) | NO |

| Play FUT Champions weekends | FUT Champions Tokens (Red National Pride items) | NO |

Key point: Every FUT match you play, in any mode, counts toward Festival of Football Tokens. You don't have to play World Cup Mode to earn event rewards. But World Cup Mode gives you pack rewards that Rivals and Squad Battles don't.
Tips to win on World Class and Ultimate difficulty
- Pick a top nation. France, Spain, Argentina, England, or Belgium. Their benches are deep enough that substitutes don't drop your level in the 70th minute.
- Use Controlled Sprint in tight spaces. The AI presses hard on World Class. Full sprint loses the ball. Hold R1 only when you have open space ahead.
- Timed Finishing is mandatory. Green-timed shots beat the AI keeper far more often. Practice the timing in the group stage before knockout rounds start.
- Defend with your CDM, not your CBs. Pulling CBs out of position is how the AI scores. Switch to your CDM, jockey, and let the back line hold its shape.
- Exploit the wings. The AI central defence is stacked. Cross from deep or cut inside with a pacey winger. Central through-balls get intercepted too easily.
- Save substitutions for the 70th minute. Fresh legs in the last 20 minutes win knockout games. The AI tires, you don't.
- Switch formations mid-game. If you're chasing a goal in the 80th minute, switch from 4-3-3 to 4-2-4. The AI doesn't adapt fast enough to counter it.
- Don't skip replays. Use them to read the AI's defensive shape. You'll spot which wing they're leaving open for the next attack.
Play World Cup Mode for pack rewards and tournament atmosphere. Play Ultimate Team for long-term squad building. Both feed the same Festival of Football reward track. Best approach: play both. Grind Rivals for Tokens, jump into World Cup Mode for packs.
