The PS5 and PS4 versions of FC 27 aren't just a simple difference in visuals—they also include gameplay and experience-related content. The gap between the two platform versions is actually huge, especially since FC 27 also cut some gameplay compared to FC 26.
What's the difference between the PS4 version of FC 27 and the PS5 version?
The two versions are very different, even core gameplay differs. On top of that, there are also differences in visual experience, game performance, cross-platform online play, and more. Roughly as follows:
PS4 doesn't have The Grounds
This is the biggest difference between FC 27 on PS5 and PS4. The Grounds only exists on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2. PS4 can't enter this mode at all.
The Grounds includes:
- Clubs
- 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and other small-sided modes
- Kickabouts
- Different areas and events
- Archetypes, Amps, and related progression content
- Club Tournaments and other Clubs content
In FC 26, PS4 could experience Clubs, but in FC 27 that mode has been fully merged into The Grounds system, so PS4 players can't even play Clubs in this generation of the game.
Visuals and hardware experience
This is fairly obvious. The PS5 version supports DualSense haptics and adaptive trigger effects, and is marked PS5 Pro Enhanced. None of these are available on PS4.
So the actual experience on PS5 far exceeds PS4, including image quality, animation performance, environmental detail, hardware response, and overall performance.
Cross-platform online play
The PS5 version of FC 27 can only match online with PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PC players, while PS4 can only match online with PS4 / Xbox One players.
In addition, if you run the PS4 version of FC 27 on PS5, it can also only play online with PS4 and same-generation console versions of FC 27.
How do you upgrade the PS4 version of FC 27 to the PS5 version?
Buying FC 27 directly gives you Dual Entitlement for free, letting you upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost. You don't need to buy the game again.
If you bought the PS4 digital version, you need to meet these conditions:
- Log into PS5 with the same PlayStation account as PS4.
- Go to the PlayStation Store and find EA SPORTS FC 27, then select the PS5 version.
- At this point the system will show that you can get and download the PS5 version of FC 27 for free. Once the download and installation are complete, you can officially start playing.
If you bought the PS4 physical disc, note:
Your PS5 must be the disc drive version. When upgrading and playing the PS5 version, you need to insert the original PS4 disc as authorization verification. PS5 Digital Edition cannot use a PS4 physical disc for this upgrade.
Will data sync after upgrading?
Ultimate Team data will transfer between PS4/PS5 with the same EA Account, including the following:
- Players and items
- Ultimate Team Coins
- FC Points
- Match record
- Leaderboard ranking
Other than that, Career Mode, Online Seasons, Co-Op Seasons, and other progress won't transfer; they're saved separately on each version.
Is it necessary to switch from PS4 to PS5 to play FC 27?
FC 27's Career Mode, Ultimate Team, Kick-Off, Online Seasons, etc. can all be played normally on PS4. These core modes are functionally no different from the PS5 version. If your goal is to play these modes, there's no need to upgrade at all.
If you want to play Clubs, then it's very necessary. FC 27's The Grounds is the new platform for Clubs, and The Grounds doesn't support PS4. If you want to play Clubs, you can only upgrade to the PS5 version.
Beyond that, the all-new Gameplay, better visuals, and game performance are all worth upgrading for.
